22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. 23 Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. 24 Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. 25 But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites.
Eph 6:9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don't threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.
Now you might think I'm trying to be funny by using theses passages and comparing them to work in the USA. Though that may be my personality, humor is not the goal here.
I thank God that slavery has been abolished in our country. The Bible neither condemns nor commends slavery. It was and in some countries still is a fact of life on planet earth. The point is this, if God expects slaves to do their duties in such a way as to represent Him, how much more should we who draw a pay check work as though we are working for Christ Himself?
You'll note I included a verse from Ephesians dealing with "Masters". If you are in a position of authority you are just as responsible to deal with those under your authority with grace, for you too are representatives of Christ.
Now "slaves" don't take that last paragraph as an excuse to when you are disciplined for not doing your job.
1Cor 10:31 So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Love in Christ,
Steve Sherwood Sr
